Founded in 2010, Tripping was an early pioneer in the vacation rental space and the first to create a system of meta-search comparison across multiple vacation rental booking platforms (like HomeAway, VRBO, TripAdvisor, and Booking.com).

At the time of this analysis, Tripping was the world's largest site of its kind, with over 12 million properties across 190 countries. In 2019, Tripping was acquired by HomeToGo.

The OPPORTUNITY

In 2017, Tripping began to face increased competition from a new player in the vacation rental space, HomeToGo. In order to compete with HomeToGo, Tripping.com needed to gain an acute understanding of HomeToGo’s business operations and growth strategy, and identify opportunities where it could have a competitive advantage.

The Action

Using market research tools and industry insights, One Across mapped a comprehensive 360-degree view of HomeToGo’s performance and acquisition strategies across all channels, including its website, app, email, paid marketing, social media, and press efforts. We plotted HomeToGo’s strategies on a timeline to visually represent its progress and anticipate its next moves.

The Results

Through this documentation, we enabled Tripping.com to benchmark its own strategies, uncovering successes in email marketing, referral traffic, and social media. We worked together to determine where to focus the company’s future growth efforts: on website usability, new user acquisition, and brand recognition.
